The Dance of the Daily and the Infinite
Where does one day begin and the infinite flow of Life end? Is it possible even to begin to comprehend the vastness of Life that engulfs every lifetime?
I reckon that is part of the purpose of the Zen Koan-like way in which the daily life of a farmer reflects the infinity of endless – and beginningless – cycles. Did we plant lettuce yet this week? Yes, but in a couple of days we will be ready to do so again. And didn’t we just finish doing that last week…?
It could seem like a mind-numbing eternity, but it certainly teaches humility and can lead to a mind-melting appreciation for the intelligence that is Nature, that is Life, that is Everything!
And a reflection on repetition: In developing a musical idea, there is a joyful, if not vigorous/rigorous, period of repetition that hones, shapes, and deepens the connection to that unique phrase, melody, rhythm, etc. How do we apply that same loving repetition to the development of a planting or seeding schedule, or even the endless bed and plant care routines that help keep the plants healthy and the beds beautiful?
May we continue to revere the rhythm of life that pulses with the beat of beauty and keeps us marching as soldiers of the Absolute Army!
In Joy!
