Summer Seeds and Sun
We are coming into the sunniest and warmest time of the year here on Arunachala. That means getting the garden beds ready for planting short cycle crops outside in Svarga, our open-air planting area. Also, this is our best time of the year to collect seeds. We have tried to balance the amount of bed space dedicated to seed saving projects – which can take several months – with the amount of plantings that can now more safely be grown outdoors.
We continue to learn how to streamline our production processes and fine tune the quantities we grow. The weekly harvest walk is the way we communicate regularly between our agriculture projects and Ruchira, our Ashram kitchen and our primary “customer,” although we often have the blessing of being able to share much of our surplus with our local workforce.
With the summer comes flowers and pollinators! It is a joyous time for all to dry out, to turn our faces (and leaves) to the sun, and to smile with deep love and respect for the magical intelligence of Creation!
