The Great Escape:
A New Path Out of the Prison of the Ego
Human consciousness constructs a prison around itself in the form of a disappointing world; a failed self-image; and an incoherent perspective on reality based in cognitive biases, paranoia, anxiety, narcissistic delusion, and wishful thinking. Consciousness is tortured in its ego prison, yet escape seems impossible. The censoring warden, the superego guards, the electrified fence of anxiety, the terror of madness and death, all function to keep the sentient being paralyzed in its condition of ignorance. Furthermore, the seeming indispensability of ego defenses and our penchant for settling for small, self-defeating escapes into sensory gratification and short-lived altered states at the expense of making the Great Escape beyond the ego, all tend to produce futility and despair.
In this extraordinary seminar, the ego and its logic are explained and deconstructed. The qualities of heroic courage, clear reasoning, love of the infinite, and capacity for deep recognition of the Real are all explored as tunnels out of the ego’s penitentiary. The core obstacle is greed. Applying spiritual aikido, it is suggested that we not try to fight against our inherent greed as egos, but instead expand our greed to infinite magnitude. Be greedy for infinite creative intelligence, measureless and endless joy, immortality, omnipotence, and perfection. To contain all that, of course, the ego mind must be emptied out and opened to all-encompassing presence and inconceivable potency. Focusing on realizing the ungraspable totality of the Real allows the paradoxical nature of consciousness to be revealed and the Truth beyond thought to become recognized as the Self.
