Sound Meditation: Journey To Another Dimension

By Priya |

We recently welcomed Ceibo to the Ashram, a sound healer who lives in Nosara, Costa Rica, and enjoys all forms of yoga, including the yoga of surfing. Ceibo teaches sound meditation classes and facilitates group sound journeys, a sacred offering the Sat Yoga Community was blessed to experience on his recent visit.

Sacred Sound and Meditation Magic

With his collection of instruments from different parts of the world - singing bowls, gongs, shells and rattles to name a few - Ceibo created a peaceful, tranquil space for us to embark on an inner journey. And wow, what a journey it was!

Beginning with Pranayamas and the gradual introduction of a mix of magical sounds, it was very easy to relax and focus internally. The sounds and vibrations had varying effects; some were very gentle and calming, some more stirring, some more touching and heart opening.

"A few years ago I started playing tuning forks and Tibetan bowls during Savasana for a friend who is a yoga teacher. The response from the students was profound...I have always been fascinated by positive, consistent, droning vibrations. More specifically the enchanted sounds of nature...I love to create a sacred space for people using meditation symbols and the use of a hand made temple I made from drift wood collected at a local river mouth, as well as the use of incense and different smudging feathers to clear the energy moved in the journey." ~ Ceibo

My Sound Journey to Another Dimension

This was my first sound experience, and to be honest, I didn’t even really understand what it was meant to be. I was expecting something peaceful and relaxing for sure, but not this beautiful, deep, moving, multi-dimensional journey.

Here is a journal excerpt of my post-experience reflections:

Starting in a very safe and tranquil place. After some time, there was more movement inside of me, like someone or something was moving energies around. Dark energies. I could see a dark cloud, and feelings of unease and anxiety slowly emerged. There was something I feared about this cloud. But in a few moments, it was gone. The sound and a wind puff from a feather brushed the cloud away. Stillness. Back to tranquility.

“Remember, your body did not go anywhere. The space you went to is in your heart. And your heart is always available. Why do you not stay in that beautiful dimension?” ~ Shunyamurti

Silence. After this, I struggle to find words. But I was in the most beautiful, peaceful, warm, safe and stunning place I have ever experienced or imperienced. I did not want to leave. When Ceibo called us back to our bodies, I realized that I had traveled to a different dimension, or so it seemed. It felt like I had gone to a non-localized space, where there seemed to be nothing there but yet nothing was missing. The best I can describe it is with white and bright colors and pure serenity, beauty and a warm feeling of love. Perfect stillness and harmony. It was far away like a different universe, but yet so very close and familiar.

I can´t wait to travel with sounds again. When I had an Atmanology session with Shunyamurti a few days later, we spoke about it and he made this beautiful comment that I cherish and take with me as part of the imperience, “Remember, your body did not go anywhere. The space you went to is in your heart. And your heart is always available. Why do you not stay in that beautiful dimension?”

Instruments of Sound Healing

"The sound journey is an intuitive offering. So I typically read the energy of the group and formulate the flow of instruments I use based on the group. The crystal bowls are my foundational instruments as they have the greatest impact related to helping people drop into their true and natural state." ~ Ceibo

These are some of the instruments that Ceibo used for the sound journey:

Sacred sound instruments
  • Pure quartz crystal Himalayan alchemy singing bowls

  • Handmade 7 alloy Tibetan singing bowls

  • Temple bells from India

  • Shruti box from India

  • Native American flutes

  • Shell and seed rattles from Peru and Africa

  • Gong, tuned to Jupiter

  • Ceibo's vocal instrument

I have traveled the world and seen more amazing places than I can count. But those experiences are nothing at all compared to the deep inner journey I have imperienced through meditation. And this meditative practice of conscious relaxation combined with the sounds of these beautiful instruments created a magical journey into another dimension. I will do my best to stay in that magical dimension of my heart!

Namaste,

Priya
