Bring in the New Year at a sacred ashram retreat

Whether you are an experienced yogi, or simply discovering the gift of meditation, this retreat will inspire and empower you to move forward with greater clarity and purpose.

A seven-day retreat with Shunyamurti is an authentic rite of passage. The retreat will include essential teachings on the subjects of yoga, meditation, and spiritual development. Enjoy the pristine natural setting of the Sat Yoga Ashram, as well as delicious and healthful vegetarian meals.

Shunyamurti offers a transfusion of empowering knowledge that will enable you to overcome self-defeating tendencies, bring clarity, renew your life energy, and inspire your freedom and creative power.

What is Love?

Understanding (and Cultivating) the Most Powerful Force in the World

In this extraordinary retreat, we will explore with Shunyamurti all the permutations of love and their consequences. Included in the teachings, the following topics will be covered:

  • Love as a historical variable as well as a constant;

  • Courtly love, arranged marriage, love as duty, love as individuation and separation;

  • Eros, Philia, Agape—the three classical levels of love;

  • The forms and enigmas of love that are current today;

  • Feminist and post-feminist theories of love, queer theories, non-binary theories, transgender love, the function of love in films, and whether life imitates the movies;

  • The causes and stages of romantic love;

  • Love and beauty;

  • Love and madness;

  • Love as a rite of passage;

  • Love in and for a spiritual community;

  • Love and sex;

  • Love and the gender conundrum;

  • Love and marriage, love and babies, love and money;

  • The perversions of love—from misogyny and male bashing to rape, prostitution, sado-masochism, masturbation, sport sex, open marriages, the ménage a trois, the don Juan, the dominatrix, the castrator, the sexual dysfunctions, sodomy, fetishism, bestiality, necrophilia, and pornography;

  • The relevance of psychoanalysis and other philosophies of love;

  • Why love fails and nowadays fails so often and so quickly;

  • Why partners often seek couples’ therapy—and why one partner will often reject that option—and why such therapy rarely helps;

  • Overcoming the trauma of lost or broken love;

  • Love as a morphogenetic field phenomenon;

  • The electromagnetic power of love;

  • Love vs. desire;

  • Love and Law;

  • Love of parents, siblings, children, extended family;

  • Love and friendship;

  • Love and charity, love and compassion;

  • Love as dispassion;

  • Tantric love;

  • Celibate couples’ love;

  • Celibate love of priest, monk, nun, or sannyasi;

  • Divine love;

  • Love and Grace;

  • Love Supreme;

  • The future of love—or the end of love;

  • Love and Death;

  • How to open your Heart to Supreme Love;

  • Love and Liberation.

Because of the deep, strong, and delicate feelings, memories, and insights this retreat will arouse, we recommend that participants remain for at least a week (and preferably a month) after the retreat to do individual processing of the issues that will have been brought to the surface.

About Shunyamurti

Shunyamurti is an adept healer, he is the founder and spiritual director of the Sat Yoga Institute and Ashram.

Many years of meditation practice and training in numerous forms of yoga, including apprenticeship with Baba Hari Dass, ten years of vowed association with a Brahmachari ashram in India, and a special resonance with Sri Ramana Maharshi have been supplemented by the intensive study of Western metaphysics, various forms of psychoanalysis and Jungian dreamwork, as well as Taoism, Kabbalah, and mystical Christianity.

"Really exciting for me is the fact that he (Shunyamurti) combines the Western psychoanalysis with the Eastern teachings. Although I wanted an ashram experience, and I am Indian, I didn't feel that the ashram experience in India would be sufficient for me."

Dipika Wishhart, India/Ibiza

"What you get here and what you learn is the thing that can change everything in your life in a permanent way, and that's the key.  In this place, you can definitely find the answers that you are looking for."

Mike Mcginnis, Costa Rica

"It's the love, and that love has helped me to learn more about how to love myself, or the Self, unconditionally and fully. I have a greater sense of inner peace that I don't believe it will go away."

Lise Karna, USA
