November Rain – Inner and Outer
We continue to experience very wet weather! The conditions are challenging, but we can see how much we have learned to adapt to the unique microclimate on Arunachala. We have developed roof structures for ayote (squash/pumpkin) mounds and started to bring the scallion rootstock under cover to avoid rotting. Scallions regrow their stem and leaves many times as long as the rootstock is healthy.
Another method of adaptation is cultivating varieties that are more resilient in our climate. We are constantly reviewing our seed saving options and finding productive varieties to stock in our seed bank. We are also very privileged to grow several taro family root crops that thrive in the rain forest climate.
Gratitude again emerges as we continue to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle despite the many challenges the climate and our environment present. The inner work of understanding our self-created limitations and having the courage to let them go is happening in tandem with the outer work. And we are constantly being nourished by the beauty that is all around us–when our aperture is open!
In Joy!
Namaste,
Hanuman
